First Foreign Ministerial Visit from Liberia to Turkey

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan is paying an official visit to Turkey between 12 and 16 May 2014, upon the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu.

At the meeting held in Ankara on 13 May 2014, the two Foreign Ministers confirmed the common will toward developing bilateral relations and cooperation and exchanged views on conclusion of the legal framework of the relations in the shortest time.

Within the framework of the visit “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between Diplomatic Academies”, “Agreement of Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic Passports” and “Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Education” were signed.

Speaking at the joint press conference, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu pointed out that Liberian Foreign Minister’s visit is a historical event and the agreements which are signed within the framework of this visit constitute a good start for the legal framework of bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stated that together with his Liberian counterpart they identified the steps to be taken in order to develop bilateral relations, and within this framework they agreed on the conclusion of several agreements at earliest, especially on the prevention of double taxation, mutual promotion of investments, international aviation and economic cooperation.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu also thanked Liberia for its support to Turkey’s 2015-2016 UN Security Council Non-Permanent Membership candidacy.
