Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu is visiting the US to attend the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, 26 September 2018

Minister Çavuşoğlu accompanying President Erdoğan is visiting New York for the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly continues his contacts in New York.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu attended the Foreign Ministerial Session of Global Counterterrorism Forum and delivered a speech on September 26. At the speech, Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey is at the forefront in the fight against terrorism and expects complete solidarity from all states in this fight.

Minister Çavuşoğlu participated in the meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu-Kashmir. Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined the humanitarian aspect of Jammu-Kashmir and emphasized that Turkey is ready to contribute actively to efforts for a sustainable settlement through dialogue between Pakistan and India, on the basis of UNSC resolutions and in line with wishes of the people of Kashmir.

Minister Çavuşoğlu attended high level meeting organized by EU on Syria. Minister Çavuşoğlu said Turkey is hosting 3.5 million Syrian refugees and has undertaken the heaviest humanitarian burden. Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that a looming catastrophe has been prevented through the memorandum in Idlib and efforts for political settlements must be accelerated.

Minister Çavuşoğlu participated in Annual Ministerial of Least Developed Countries. Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey continues its support to the Least Developed Countries, 20% of Turkey’s official development assistance is delivered to LDCs and UN Technology Bank established in Gebze will contribute to the capacity building of LDCs.

At the Non-Aligned Movement Ministers Committee’s meeting Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey will always stand by our Palestinian brothers and sisters, a Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital and 1967 borders is a must to ensure peace and security in the region.

In addition to the meetings, Minister Çavuşoğlu also held bilaterals with Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis of Switzerland, Minister for External Relations and International Cooperation Ezechiel Nibigira of Burundi, and Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil of Lebanon, President Maria Fernanda Espinosa of UN General Assembly and Secretary General Vinicio Cerezo of Central American Integration System (SICA).
