Minister Çavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Japan from 20 to 22 June 2017.

At the first day of his visit, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Turkish businessmen from MUSİAD – Japan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu received Mitsubishi Electric CEO and the co-chair of Turkey-Japan Business Council Kenichiro Yamanishi on 22nd of June. Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Japanese investors and businessmen, discussed fostering Turkey – Japan economic and trade relations.

Following his abovementioned contacts Minister Çavuşoğlu came together with tourism sector representatives and exchanged views on steps to enhance Turkey – Japan cooperation in tourism.

Minister Çavuşoğlu visited Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Tokyo. At the Center he met Prof. Tadashi Suzuki, Ottoman Historian and a prominent Turcologist.

After his visit to Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center, Minister Çavuşoğlu came together with Turkish citizens living in Japan and members of Japanese Muslim community at Tokyo Mosque.

Minister Çavuşoğlu evaluated bilateral relations and regional issues with members of Japan – Turkey Interparliamentary Friendship Group.

The current state of bilateral relations and further opportunities for cooperation were discussed at the meeting between Turkish and Japanese delegations co-chaired by Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.

After the meeting, Minister Çavuşoğlu informed media about his visit to Japan with Minister Kishida.

On the third day of his visit (June 22nd), Minister Çavuşoğlu delivered a speech on the developments in the Middle East and Turkey’s role in the region at Sasakawa Peace Foundation. Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Honorary Chairman of the Foundation, Yohei Sasakawa.

Within the framework of his contacts with Japanese media, Minister Çavuşoğlu gave interviews to Nikkei Shimbun newspaper and NHK TV; evaluated current issues and developments in our region, replied questions on Turkey's foreign policy. Minister Çavuşoğlu also spoke to the Japanese and the Turkish press about his visit to Japan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu discussed Turkey – Japan economic and trade cooperation with Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Minister Çavuşoğlu evaluated Turkey – Japan relations, regional and international genda.

Minister Çavuşoğlu's visit constituted the first visit at the level of Foreign Ministers from Turkey to Japan after 14 years.
