BN:5 - 27 March 2008, Assistance Funds Provided by Turkey

In 2006 development assistance funds provided by Turkey to developing countries has exceeded 700 million Dollars.

Turkey has gained Observer status at the African Union in 2005 and her relations with African countries are rapidly enhancing.

Within the framework of Turkey’s policy of “Opening up to Africa” since 1998, Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) which was established to assist countries in their development efforts has successfuly completed many development projects in Africa, particularly in health, education and agricultural fields.

TIKA in the last 2 years has opened Programme Coordination Offices in Ethiopia, Sudan and Senegal.

Turkey has recently launched a new initiative and decided to deliver a further 500 million Dollars to African countries for their development projects.

These projects will be implemented by TIKA in cooperation with the interested African Countries over a 5 year period in health, education and economic development fields.
