We have learned with deep sorrow that, according to initial reports, more than fifty people lost their lives and more than one hundred people were injured as a result of the terrorist attacks perpetrated today (19 March 2013) in Iraq.

We condemn with indignation the said terrorist attacks aimed at instigating a sectarian clash in Iraq. We wish God's mercy upon our Iraqi brothers who lost their lives in these attacks, convey our condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded.

It is very saddening that our neighbour Iraq has not yet reached the desired atmosphere of peace, security and stability. Turkey will continue to support the efforts aimed at strengthening internal peace, stability and democracy in Iraq and will maintain its solidarity with the brotherly people of Iraq in their fight against terrorism.
