UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson paid a visit to Turkey on 25-27 September 2016 to demonstrate the solidarity of the UK Government after the coup attempt of 15 July. In the meetings held during the visit, bilateral relations and cooperation as well as regional and international issues were discussed. Speaking at the joint press conference held after their meeting on 27 September, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Secretary Johnson underlined the common goal of further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
