The 9th Ambassadors’ Conference officially started in Ankara (9 January 2017)

The 9th Ambassadors’ Conference officially started with Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu’s opening speech in Ankara on 9 January.

Among the high-level foreign participants to attend the Conference, which is held under the theme “Towards 2023: National Values and Global Goals”, are Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Finland as well as General Director of International Organization for Migration.

On the first day of the Conference, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and the Ambassadors paid a visit to the Martyrs’ Cemetery of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Following their visit to the Cemetery, Foreign Minister and the Ambassadors visited Atatürk’s Mausoleum and our veteran parliament, Turkish Grand National Assembly, in particular the part damaged during the coup attempt of 15 July.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu began his opening remarks by paying tribute to the late employees of the Ministry, Mehmet Gücük, Engin Aşula, Lokman Açıkbaş, Eyyüp Cemal Aydın as well as Andrey Karlov, Ambassador of Russian Federation, who lost his life in a heinous terror attack.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that the Ambassadors' Conference has been providing the opportunity to review foreign policy and future objectives of Turkey followed on a global scale, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined that Turkey has constructive, result-oriented and permanent solutions to problems faced by humanity and that our Ambassadors support their claim of solving these problems with sensitivity and diligence.

In his speech Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu pointed out that Turkey’s fight against terrorism will continue resolutely, and fight against FETO, perpetrator of 15 July coup attempt which targeted Turkey’s national values, democratic and economic assets and foreign policy, constitutes a priority for Turkish foreign policy.

Highlighting that Turkey seeks to redefine the world as an area of cooperation rather than conflicts, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu noted the importance of embracing the area stretching from Europe to Asia, from Africa to Latin America.

In his statement, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also touched upon relations with the US, the EU, Russia, Middle East, Central Asia, East Asia, Africa and Latin America, comprehensive efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, Turkey’s contributions to the process for a political solution in Syria, Syrians hosted in Turkey as well as regional and global issues.

Following the official opening of the Conference, President Erdoğan received the Ambassadors at the Presidential Complex.

Afternoon session of the 9th Ambassadors’ Conference continued with the internal session chaired by Undersecretary Ümit Yalçın.

Furthermore on the first day, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and his Spouse met with the Ambassadors and their Spouses at the traditional family dinner of the Ambassadors’ Conference.
