Participation of Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu in the OIC Meetings, 29-31 May 2019

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Saudi Arabia on 29-31 May 2019 to attend the meetings of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir and Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah and to participate in the 14th Islamic Summit in Makkah.

Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the meeting of OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir in Jeddah on 29 May 2019.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey was deeply concerned with the security and humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir, and sincerely desired that the Kashmir issue would be resolved through peaceful means between India and Pakistan based on the relevant UN resolutions and in line with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi of Jordan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that a new agreement was underway to enhance trade and economic cooperation with Jordan and we wished to celebrate 2020 as Turkey-Jordan Culture Year.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Foreign Minister Amadou Ba of Senegal.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we reached the target of 400 million Dollar Turkey-Senegal trade volume set by our Presidents and we would increase this figure.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we would also continue to enhance our cooperation in the fields of defense industry, culture and education.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers Council.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that as OIC Summit Chair since 2016, Turkey had organized more than 30 high-level meetings, including two Extraordinary Summits and two Emergency Meetings of the Executive Committee of Foreign Ministers.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that the establishment of bodies such as the Women Consultative Council, the Contact Group on Friends of Mediation and the OIC Police Centre were some examples of Turkey’s endeavors as OIC Summit Chair.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also emphasized that we should not forget that the OIC was established to protect the historical status of Al Quds.

On 30 May 2019 Minister Çavuşoğlu attended Turkey-Malaysia-Pakistan Trilateral Meeting with Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah of Malaysia and Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Malaysia and Pakistan were key partners for Turkey. Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that as major democracies and economies of the Islamic World, we would further our cooperation and would make better use of our combined potential.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu had also a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were steadily continuing preparations for the next High Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting with Pakistan. Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we considered as important Pakistan’s contributions to the peace process in Afghanistan.

Following his visit to Jeddah Minister Çavuşoğlu went to Makkah on May 31, Friday, to participate in the 14th Islamic Summit.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Nabeela Tunis of Sierra Leone.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were ready to give every support to the Embassy to be opened by Sierra Leone in Turkey and we would strengthen relations with Sierra Leone with projects in construction and agriculture.

Minister Çavuşoğlu held a meeting with Speaker Teberrüken Uluçay of the TRNC Assembly. Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed that Turkey would always stand by Turkish Cypriots and that TRNC’s cause was Turkey’s cause.

After that meeting Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were ready to host the seventh meeting of the Turkey-Qatar Joint Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation. Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that reciprocal investments with Qatar were on the rise.

Following the bilaterals, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the 14th Islamic Summit. At the Summit, Turkey handed over the OIC Summit Chairmanship to Saudi Arabia. During his address at the Summit, Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined that 50 years after the OIC’s establishment, the Ummah still faced formidable challenges to peace, security, stability and prosperity, and that Turkey would continue to actively contributing to OIC’s efforts to defend common causes of Ummah.
