Relations between Türkiye and Finland

Political Relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Türkiye and Finland were established with the Friendship Agreement signed in 1924.

Türkiye and Finland became allies after Finland’s NATO membership in 2023.

Former President of Finland Sauli Niinistö paid a visit to Türkiye on 16-17 March 2023. Former Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto paid a working visit to Türkiye on February 8, 2022 and also participated in the II. Antalya Diplomacy Forum in March 2022.

Main export items: Motor land vehicles, ready-made garments, electric tools and appliances, textiles and iron/steel products

Main import items: Chemical wood pulp, paper and paperboard, industrial machinery, electric devices, iron/steel and plastic raw materials

Direct investments from Finland to Türkiye during 2002-2023 amounted to 447 million Dollars. Turkish direct investments in Finland in the same period reached 69 million Dollars.

The first meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) between Türkiye and Finland was held on 8 June 2022 in Istanbul.

Around 117 thousand Finnish tourists visited Türkiye in 2023.

Cultural, Educational and Consular Relations

The Turkish community in Finland is an important component of our bilateral relations.

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ student exchange program, 1.193 Turkish students went to Finland and 192 Finnish students came to Türkiye in the period of 2014-2023.
