Relations between Türkiye and Brunei Darussalam

Türkiye established diplomatic relations with Brunei Darussalam on 01 January 1984 and opened her Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan on 15 October 2013. The Brunei Embassy in Ankara was opened on 8 January 2014.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei visited Türkiye on 8-10 April 2012. It was the first visit at the level of Head of State between the two countries.

H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then in his capacity as Prime Minister, visited Brunei on 9-10 November 2012.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei also participated at the 13th Islamic Summit Conference of OIC in İstanbul on 14-15 April 2016.

H.E. Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister Foreign Affairs and Trade II of Brunei Darussalam, made the first Foreign Ministerial level visit to Türkiye on 5 April 2012.

Lastly, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to Brunei on 6-7 November 2018.

The last visit at the level of the Foreign Ministry was made by the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Dato Erywan Yusof, to Antalya on the occasion of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on 11-13 March 2021.

12 Bruneian citizens are currently registered to be resident in Türkiye while 68 Turkish citizens reside in Brunei, as of November 2022.

Under Türkiye Scholarships, 7 Bruneian students have been awarded scholarship for higher education at Turkish universities so far. Besides, many Bruneian students are currently studying in Turkish Universities on their own expenses.
