Relations between Türkiye and Botswana

Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Botswana were established in 1981. Turkish Embassy in Gaborone was inaugurated on 15 October 2014. Permanent Mission of Botswana to the UN Office in Geneva is accredited to Türkiye.

H.E. Mr. Phandu Skelemani, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Botswana, visited Türkiye between 21-24 January 2009 and 5-9 May 2010 where General Agreement of Cooperation and Agreement on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation were respectively signed.

During the third visit of the then Foreign Minister Skelemani to Türkiye, the first session of Türkiye-Botswana Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) was held in September 2012.

The second session of Türkiye-Botswana JCC was held online on March 25, 2021, under the co-chairpersonship of the then Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services, Mrs. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, and Botswana’s former Foreign Minister, Dr. Lemogang Kwape.

Bileteral trade volume between our countries in 2024 was 4,468 million USD (exports from Türkiye being 4.465.000 USD, imports to Türkiye being 3.000 USD).

Within the framework of Türkiye Scholarships, Turkish Government has allocated undergraduate scholarships to 27 students from Botswana since 2012.
