Relations between Türkiye and Angola

Türkiye recognized the Republic of Angola immediately after it gained independence in 1975. Within the framework of its policy of Partnership with Africa, Türkiye wishes to deepen its relations with Angola. As a testimony of its commitment to developing relations with Angola, the Turkish Embassy in Luanda was opened on 1 April 2010. The Embassy of Angola in Ankara was officially inaugurated on April 4, 2013.

Increased reciprocal visits between the two countries are expected to provide an impetus to every aspect of bilateral political, economic and cultural relations. Such visits and further bilateral cooperation will help to fulfill the potential of the partnership between Angola and Türkiye.

Within the context of BRICS Summit which was realized 27 July 2018 in South Africa, a meeting was held between H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and H.E. João Lourenço, President of Angola. H.E. Manuel Augusto, former Minister of External Relations of Angola paid a visit to Türkiye between 13-15 April 2019 and had a meeting with H.E Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On 11-12 July,2017 the first meeting of the Türkiye-Angola Joint Economic Commission has held in Luanda under the Co-chairmanship of H.E. Bülent Tüfenkçi, former Minister of Customs and Trade of the Republic of Türkiye and H.E. Rui Jorge Carneiro Mangueira, Minister of Justice and Human Rights of the Republic of Angola.

Bilateral trade volume between the two countries amounted to approximately 212 million USD in 2019. Exports from Türkiye consist of foodstuff, textile products, clothing, white goods and machine. The actual trade volume between the two countries is believed to be higher than statistics suggest, taking into account the shuttle trade and trade realized through third countries.

Through Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Türkiye is providing development assistance to Angola in various domains.

Since 1992, government of Türkiye grants scholarships to the Angolan students.
