QA-13, 6 September 2012, Statement of the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in Response to a Question

We have learned with deep sorrow that Major General Adnan Abdurrezzak, an official of Turkmen origin at the Office of the Ministry of Interior in Kirkuk Governor’s Office, and two security guards have lost their lives as a result of an attack perpetrated in the evening of 4 September 2012.
We wish God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and convey our condolences to their bereaved families and relatives.

We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist act aimed at further damaging the security environment in Kirkuk, which is already fragile, and instigating an ethnic clash in the country. We expect that its perpetrators will be caught and brought to justice as soon as possible.

We wish that an environment of peace and tranquillity will be promptly established in all corners of Iraq, including Kirkuk which constitutes one of the cores of Iraq with its pluralistic structure.

We expect that, in a spirit of democracy and reconciliation, Iraqi leaders will promptly take measures alleviating the ongoing political tension in the country and preventing terrorist acts which target the entire Iraqi people.
