No: 277, 14 December 2010, Press Release Regarding the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

The 50th anniversary of the establishment of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), one of the basic organizations dealing with issues related to world economy, which was founded on the date of 14 December 1960 in Paris with the signing of the Convention, is being commemorated today.

Besides improvement of the economic situation of the member countries, the OECD makes analytic studies and recommendations for the solution of the global economic problems and towards the objective of global development.

Overcoming the global economic crisis, the negative impact of which still exists today and realizing sustainable development on a global scale, makes cooperation between advanced and developing countries an important issue more than ever. The OECD which brings together advanced and developing countries under the same framework, has a capacity to significantly contribute to the solution of global economic issues. In this respect, we believe that the OECD’s contribution to the work of the G-20 where Turkey is also a member, has come to be more important in this period.

Since its establishment, Turkey has been a member of the OECD which has a prominent place in the international economic system. Our country, either in its efforts for the transformation of the global economy into a healthier and fairer structure, or in the context of planning its national economic policies, will continue her close and effective cooperation with the OECD in the future.
