No: 22, 27 January 2013, Press Release Regarding the Incidents Taking Place in Egypt

Demonstrations have been taking place across Egypt on the occasion of the second anniversary of Tahrir Revolution. Protests also erupted after a court sentenced 21 people to death in the morning of 26 January 2013 in relation to the riots that occurred at Port Said stadium last year. We express our deep sorrow and concern since many people died and many others were injured in the subsequent clashes.

We ask Allah to have mercy upon those who lost their lives and offer our condolences to the families. We also wish a quick recovery to those injured.

It is vitally important that all parties act on the basis of compromise, peace and dialogue during this delicate period that Egypt is going through. In this regard, we invite all parties to embrace a moderate stance and act with prudence in order to prevent further polarization in the society while remaining open to compromise for the settlement of internal political disputes through dialogue.

Turkey will remain firmly committed to extending support to friendly and brotherly Egypt in the process of democratization.
