No: 225, 10 September 2016, Press Release regarding the Arrangements between the US and RF on Cessation of Hostilities and Humanitarian Access to Besieged Areas

We welcome the announcement of the arrangements between the US and the RF after long negotiations that aims to establish a comprehensive cessation of hostilities environment and facilitate humanitarian access to those in need.

It is critically important that these arrangements, which is to take effect by the first day of Eid al-Adha, be implemented successfully, so that there is cessation of hostilities across Syria and immediate access of humanitarian aid to those in need.

H.E. President Erdoğan strongly urged President Obama during their meeting alongside the G20 Summit in China and President Putin, again in a separate meeting during G20 Summit and a follow up telephone conversation later, that the parties announce the arrangements before the Eid al- Adha begins, that the scope of the arrangements be comprehensive and humanitarian access cover all of Aleppo. H.E. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu impressed upon his counterparts the same points through an intensive telephone diplomacy. President Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu followed this process very closely from the beginning.

Preparations are underway to deliver humanitarian aid to Aleppo from Turkey through the UN.

Turkey will continue its efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Aleppo and other parts of Syria, facilitate the effective implementation of the cessation of hostilities and extension of this new arrangements to positively impact the efforts on the political solution to end the conflict
