Middle East Peace Process

The establishment of a lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East as well as the evolution of this geography into a stable and prosperous region is the shared desire and goal of the international community. Within this context, Türkiye, from the very beginning, has been a strong supporter of the Middle East Peace Process. Accordingly, Türkiye has not only tried to develop bilateral relations in the region, but also deployed efforts for the creation of an atmosphere conducive to regional cooperation.

Türkiye is not only among the first group of countries that recognized the Palestinian State established in exile in 1988, but it was also among the first countries that recognized the State of Israel in 1949 following its foundation.

Türkiye desires earnestly a just and lasting settlement to the Israel-Palestine conflict, which lies beneath the problems in the Middle East, through the establishment of sovereign, independent and contiguous State of Palestine on the basis of 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with the State of Israel.

During its Summit presidency (2016-2019) of the OIC, Türkiye played a leading role in the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolutions on the “Status of Jerusalem” and the “Protection of the Palestinian Civilian Population”.
