Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg are paying a state visit to Turkey upon the invitation of Mr. Abdullah Gül, President of Turkey.

The visit is the first head-of-state level visit from Luxembourg to Turkey since 1947, when the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established.

During the official meetings at the Çankaya Presidential Palace, all aspects of the relations between the two countries, particularly political and economic matters were discussed. Besides, views were exchanged on current regional and international issues including the EU.

Speaking at the joint press conference, President Gül pointed out the historical characteristic of the visit and said that the bilateral relations which are already at an excellent level will be furthered more. President Gül underlined that the two countries are in very close cooperation on many issues and that economy is the most important dimension of the bilateral relations.
