Foreign Minister Davutoğlu discusses the developments in Egypt and Syria with Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey paid a working visit to Saudi Arabia on August 27-28, 2013 to meet with Prince Saud Al Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia. At the meeting, the developments in the Middle East, particularly Syria and Egypt and the relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia were reviewed. The views were exchanged on the developments in the context of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu, in his statement on the meeting with his Saudi counterpart stressed that Turkey and Saudi Arabia are two countries which attach importance to the regional peace and stability and added that the close cooperation between the two countries carried out in the last ten years has contributed to settlement of issues.

Pointing out that Turkey and Saudi Arabia share a common perspective on the use of chemical weapons in Syria and later developments, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stated that the two countries, in the face of this barbarous attack which caused a humanitarian tragedy, agreed upon to join their forces and to share their common perspective with the international community.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that the situation in Egypt was also comprehensively reviewed at the meeting and maintained that even if the two countries have some differences on the developments in Egypt, these differences will not pose an obstacle to constitute a common ground which contributes to overcoming the political crisis in Egypt.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu noted that he and his Saudi counterpart also agreed to take joint initiatives concerning some regional and international issues and to further develop bilateral relations, and emphasized that the close cooperation established between Turkey and Saudi Arabia regarding the regional issues such as Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and the Middle East Peace Process will be enhanced.
