Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey who is in New York on the occasion of the UN General Assembly continues his contacts with the meetings on different regional and thematic issues.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu attended the Ministerial Meeting of the Uniting for Consensus Group which is formed by countries who share similar views concerning the UN Security Council reform. He proposed to hold a meeting in Istanbul in early 2014 where all dimensions of the UNSC reform will be discussed with a view to accelerating the efforts for the reform and to creating a new result-oriented dynamism. The Ministers confirmed the consensus on the need for a useful and effective reform of the UNSC. Foreign Minister Davutoglu’s proposal for a meeting in Istanbul was also accepted.

Speaking at the OIC Jammu Kashmir Contact Group Meeting Foreign Minister Davutoğlu underlined Turkey’s solidarity with Pakistan in every field. Foreign Minister also voiced the sorrow of Turkish people for the earthquake occurred in Pakistan on September 24, 2013 Foreign Minister Davutoğlu conveyed his condolences for the ones who lost their lives on the behalf of the Turkish people.

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu, at the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Yemen pointed out that Turkey’s support to Yemen and Yemeni people will continue and stated that Turkey’s pledge of 100 million dollars in aid is carried out through concrete projects.

Furthermore, Foreign minister Davutoğlu participated in the Palestine Ad Hoc Liaison Committee meeting. In his speech, he stated that Turkey supports the efforts of the Palestinian Administration towards strengthening the state structure of Palestine. He reiterated Turkey’s support for the restart of US brokered peace talks however, he emphasized that provocations by the Israeli side should end with a view to advancing the negotiations without any interruption and to reaching its goal. In this context, pointing out the damage caused by the illegal settlements to the negotiation process, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stressed that the acts against al Haram al Sharif in Jerusalem are unacceptable. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu underlined that the sacredness of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the freedom of worship of the Muslims are indispensable not only for the Palestinians but also for the whole Islamic world including Turkey. Foreign Minister Davutoğlu indicated that in order to revive the Palestinian economy, first and foremost, Israeli occupation procedures and restrictions should be lifted.
