Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s visit to Kuwait to attend the International Counter-DEASH Coalition Foreign Ministers Meeting and the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq, 12-14 February 2018

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid a visit to Kuwait to attend the International Counter-DEASH Coalition Foreign Ministers Meeting and the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq on 12-14 February 2018.

On February 12, Monday, Minister Çavuşoğlu visited the construction site of the new Kuwait Airport, and was briefed about the 4,5 billion USD project carried out by the Turkish company Limak.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, and reiterated Turkey’s strong support to Iraq.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu also met with Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah of Kuwait. At the meeting, two Ministers discussed Turkey-Kuwait relations, and exchanged views on regional developments.

On February 13, Tuesday, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the International Counter-DEASH Coalition Foreign Ministers Meeting. During his speech, Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized once again Turkey’s contributions to counter-terrorism and its expectations from the international community in the fight against DEASH, PKK/PYD and other terrorist organizations.

Within the margins of the Foreign Ministerial, Minister Çavuşoğlu had bilateral talks with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto of Hungary, and discussed current issues.

On February 14, Wednesday, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq. At the Conference, Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey, as a neighbor, a friend and a reliable partner of Iraq will always stand by Iraqi people.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also declared that Turkey will provide a credit facility of 5 billion USD, and a project support of 50 million USD to Iraq, and that economic, social, and cultural projects undertaken and aids provided by TIKA to Iraq will continue.

In the framework of bilateral meetings in Kuwait, Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop of Australia discussed regional issues.
