Turkey’s major export items to Greece: iron-steel, cotton robe,  fabrics, metal products, fruits-vegetables, fish, clothing,  machinery, leather, glass, ceramics.

Turkey’s major import items from Greece: mineral oil, cotton (61%), petroleum products (12%) and plastic products.

Bilateral trade volume between Turkey and Greece has substantially increased during the recent years as shown from the figures above.  By the end of 2009, the bilateral trade volume has reached nearly 2 billion Euros. Trade, energy, transportation and tourism sectors emerged as fertile areas of economic cooperation.

There are 390 Greek firms operating in Turkey. The amount of the direct investments of the Greek companies in Turkey has risen to 4.78 billion Euros. Banking has so far taken the lion’s share in total direct investment. Two Greek banks have become operational in the Turkish banking market. Information technologies, telecommunications, agricultural processing, packaging, plastic, pharmacy, cosmetic, fishing, tourism and construction are the other main sectors preferred by Greek investors. On the other hand, Turkish Ziraat Bank opened two branches in Athens and Komotini, while necessary permit is granted by Greek authorities for a third branch in Xanthi.

In 2009,  616,489 Greek tourists visited Turkey, while 200,348 Turkish tourists visited Greece.
