Spring Meetings of the Foreign and Defence Ministers of the Western European Union (WEU) countries will take place in Porto , Portugal on May 15-16, 2000.

The Turkish delegation to the Defense Ministerial Meetings will be headed by National Defence Minister H.E. Sabahattin Çakmakoğlu. On the other hand, the Turkish delegation to the Foreign Ministerial Meetings will be headed by Ambassador H..E Temel İskit, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the WEU.

At the joint sessions of the meetings, foreign and defense ministers will undertake a follow-up of the latest developments concerning the "European Security and Defense Identity" and "European Common Security and Defense Policy". They will also adopt the "Porto Declaration".

At the Defense Ministerial Meetings, experiences acquired from CMX/CRISEX 2000 joint military exercise will be discussed, while at the Foreign Ministerial Meetings, the experiences of WEU on the "Crisis Management" in Europe will be reviewed.

In Porto, the WEU Armament Group (WEAG) Defense Ministers meeting will also be held on May 15.
