Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius of Lithuania paid a visit to Turkey on 22 August 2016. In the meetings, views were exchanged on bilateral relations as well as regional issues. This visit was a concrete demonstration of solidarity displayed by the Lithuanian Government following the failed coup attempt on 15 July. Speaking at the joint press conference with Foreign Minister Linkevicius, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that some circles in Europe fail to fully understand or don't want to understand the threat Turkey faces and that Turkish people prevented developments that could also negatively affect Europe's stability by foiling the coup attempt.
