Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany paid a working visit to Turkey on 14-15 November 2016.

In the meetings held during the visit, bilateral relations between Turkey and Germany, cooperation in the fight against terrorism and Turkey-EU relations as well as current regional and international issues were discussed.Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Steinmeier held a joint press conference after the meetings.

Stating that Turkey and Germany have similar views about refugees including fair burden sharing and that there is close consultation with Germany, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined again that Readmission Agreement and visa liberalisation are interrelated. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also conveyed our expectation regarding the prevention of FETO's activities in Germany and the extradition of FETO members. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that steps to be taken were discussed to further strengthen bilateral economic ties with Germany which is our biggest trade partner. Furthermore, he expressed our concerns about xenophobia and violent acts which threaten our citizens in Germany and stressed that necessary measures must be taken in this regard.
