The fourth day of the Ambassadors’ Conference (12 January 2017)

The fourth day of the Ambassadors’ Conference was hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız as the Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the talks on Cyprus in Geneva. The fourth day commenced with the address by Minister of National Defense Fikri Işık on our national defense policies and our defense industry. Minister Işık stated that, Turkey is updating its defense priorities considering asymmetric threats and challenges with giving due regard to also regular warfare.

On the fourth day of the Conference, Minister of Health Recep Akdağ, Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç and General Director of the International Organization for Migration William Lacy Swing addressed the Ambassadors and two panels titled “Information Economy and Diplomacy” and “Global Trends towards 2023” were held.

Minister of Health Recep Akdağ touched upon health policies, services and the progress achieved at his address to the Ambassadors. The panel on “Information Economy and Diplomacy”, was held with the participation of Undersecretary of the Defense Industries İsmail Demir, Chief Advisor of the President Prof. Dr. Davut Kavranoğlu, President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey Prof. Dr. Ahmet Arif Ergin and Vice President for Research and Development of Koç University Prof. Dr. İrşadi Aksu. Then, Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç delivered a speech underlining international representation and success in sports and youth policies.

The second panel of the day on “Global Trends towards 2023” took place with the participation of Kausikan,former Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Dr.Bhaskar Chakravorti,from the The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and Chair Professor of Finance of Sabancı University Prof. Dr.Özgür Demirtaş.

Finally, Director General of International Organization for Migration William Lacy Swing addressed the Ambassadors. In his speech, General Director Swing expressed appreciation for Turkey and its people for their generosity to host the largest population of migrants and said that the heavy burden shouldered by Turkey sets an example to other countries that are supposed to share this burden. Following the address by Director General Swing, Agreement amending the 1995 Agreement Between Turkey and the International Organization for Migration was signed.
