Statement Made by Sermet Atacanlı, Deputy Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry in Response to a Question Regarding Turkey’s View on the Missile Tests Recently Conducted by India, Pakistan and Iran April 15, 1999

In view of her proximity to the regions where there is a high risk of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery means, Turkey pursues a firm and sensitive policy on non-proliferation issues.

Events that are currently underway in the Balkan region demonstrate the importance of regional stability for the peace in the world.

As a party to the Missile Technology Control Regime since 1997, we do hope that the latest missile tests will not lead to a new arms race in the region.
