Turkey- SICA II. Foreign Ministers Forum held in Istanbul, 20 April 2017

Turkey-Central American Integration System (SICA) II. Foreign Ministers Forum was held in Istanbul on 20 April 2017.

Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua and Panama attended the Forum. During the meeting, cooperation between Turkey and Central America were discussed in all its dimensions and current regional and international developments were reviewed.

The opening session on “Turkey-SICA Cooperation Opportunities” started with the speeches of Werner Isaac Vargas Torres, Executive Director of SICA; Foreign Minister Gonzalez Sanz of Costa Rica, SICA President pro tempore and also Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. Following the speeches of the heads of delegations, a joint declaration was adopted.

After the joint press conference, various agreements were signed between Turkey and the participating states. In this regard, with El Salvador a protocol on political consultations between Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Honduras an agreement on air services, with Costa Rica a cooperation agreement on fighting against illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were signed.

In the margins of the event, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu held bilateral meetings with Deputy Foreign Minister of Panama and with his counterparts from Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Belize.
