Seventh Ambassadors Conference started with Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu’s speech.

Seventh Ambassadors Conference started with Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu’s speech on 5 January 2015 in Ankara. Ambassadors visited Atatürk's Mausoleum and the Martyrs' Cemetery of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Within the framework of this years’ conference entitled “New Turkey: Continuity and Change in Foreign Policy” the Ambassadors will exchange views on current issues on our foreign policy agenda and they will hold panel meetings on various subjects cross-cutting with our foreign policy issues. Deputy prime ministers, ministers and senior officials from relevant institutions will take part in panel meetings. The Ambassadors will visit Çanakkale to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Çanakkale Land and Sea Battles on 9 January, 2015.

Within the scope of the Conference Foreign Ministers of the Netherlands, Argentina and Nigeria as well as the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Director-General of UNESCO and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees are expected to address the Ambassadors.

Delivering a speech at the opening of the conference, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that at the Conference Turkish foreign policy will be discussed in every aspect and the future of Turkish foreign policy will be planned together with the ambassadors.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated “Our objective at the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey is a more powerful, more developed, more respected Turkey which is closer to higher democratic standards in every field ranging from politics to economy, from science to technology and to social and cultural policies” and expressed that this years’ theme “New Turkey: Continuity and Change” was decided on the basis of this understanding. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu reiterated that the realization of the “New Turkey” objective relies heavily on the effective, multi-dimensional, visionary and humanitarian diplomacy of Turkey.

Expressing that Turkish diplomacy draws its strength from its deep-rooted history and its accumulation of experience that witnessed foundations and collapses of several states, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said “The basic principle guiding Turkish foreign policy today, as it was in the past is ‘Peace at home, peace in the world’ philosophy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Founder of the Republic of Turkey.

Emphasizing that Turkey’s aim to steer regional and global developments rather than passively watching them is a result of our country’s humanitarian approach, Çavuşoğlu stated that both trilateral consultation mechanisms established on the principle of regional ownership and initiatives pioneered by Turkey like Alliance of Civilizations, Mediation for Peace and The Global Counter Terrorism Forum are manifestations of this approach.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu concluded his remarks by saying “I want to express once again that I’m proud of working together with Turkish diplomats who are known in the international arena with their positive qualifications in terms of merit, intellectual accumulation of knowledge and experience.”
