Visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to the Republic of Cuba, 17-18 May 2019

On 17-18 May 2019 following his visit to Finland for the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited the Republic of Cuba.

On 17 May 2019 Minister Çavuşoğlu presented Distinguished Service Award to Eusebio Leal, Director of the restoration program of Old Havana.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that it was a great pleasure to present the Distinguished Service Award to Eusebio Leal, city historian who relocated Atatürk’s bust to Havana’s best spot.

On 18 May 2019 Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla of the Republic of Cuba.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkish investments in Cuba were increasing and we would develop relations in agriculture, construction, infrastructure, energy, health and tourism.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Esteban Lazo Hernandez, the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey-Cuba relations were in a very good level and we would increase contacts between Parliaments. Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that the GNAT would be observer in the Union of Parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean (PARLATINO).

After the meeting Minister Çavuşoğlu ‪met also with Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas of the Republic of Cuba.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkish Airlines’ flights had a positive impact on our tourism and trade relations with Cuba and we would reach 200 million Dollars in bilateral trade.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, the President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey strongly opposed unilateral sanctions and would continue to support the Resolution at the UN General Assembly to end the embargo imposed on Cuba.
