The visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Geneva to attend the 40th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, 24-25 February 2019

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Geneva to attend the 40th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council and to address the Conference on Disarmament.

On 25 February 2019 in his speech at the Conference on Disarmament, Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined that the ultimate goal is a world without nuclear weapons.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Mustapha Ramid, State Minister for Human Rights of Morocco and stated Turkey’s appreciation for the closure of FETO schools in Morocco.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Manuel Domingos Augusto, Minister of External Relations of Angola. At the meeting Turkey-Angola economic and cultural relations were discussed.

Minister Çavuşoğlu met also with Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and wished her a successful tenure.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stressed that the UN praises Turkey’s principled and transparent stance on the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu stated at the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, that Turkey always attaches importance to human rights despite fighting simultaneously against multiple terror threats, in particular against FETO, PKK/PYD/YPG and DEASH.
