QA-13, 29 June 2013, Answer of the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey to a Question Regarding the Incidents in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region

The incidents of violence resulting in numerous deaths and casualties that have occurred in the town of Lukeqin, in the Shanshan District of the Turpan Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) have caused concern.

Having historical and cultural ties with the people of the region, which we consider as a bridge of friendship with the PRC, we attach importance to their living in security, stability and peace.

We believe that the authorities of the PRC will elucidate the incidents, the nature of which is not fully clear to the international community, and that an environment of stability and confidence will be established in the region.

We hope that peace and order in the region will not be disrupted and that tension will not escalate.
