QA:1 - 26 January 2008, Statement of the Spkoesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in a Response to a Question (Armenian views of the Democratic Party in U.S.) (Unofficial Translation)

We regret the statements in favour of Armenian views made by the candidates competing in the Democratic Party to become candidates in the U.S. Presidential election.

The efforts to cast a shadow on our history, for the sake of an internal party struggle, offends the Turkish nation and compounds our regret.

Politicians who are candidate to become President of the U.S.A. should be more responsible towards both history and the future, should show care not to offend through unfounded statements a friendly and allied country and its people, and in this context should bear in mind the sensitivities of Turkish-American relations.
