NO:3 - 8 January 2008, Press Release Regarding the Meeting of the Working Group on Bribery (WGB) (Unofficial Translation)

The meeting of the Working Group on Bribery (WGB), established in accordance with the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions and ratified by Turkey on 24 September 2000, was held in Paris on 4-7 December 2007.

During the meeting, phase 2 study report of our country on combating bribery was discussed. The Working Group decided to repeat the study of phase two one year later, on the ground that there were certain shortcomings with respect to implementation by our country of the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials.

Turkey attaches great importance to the mentioned Convention and to her cooperation with the OECD on this subject. In this regard, our country made amendments in her legislation in 2003 and 2005, in order to incorporate into her domestic law the obligations arising from the Convention.

In order that endevours in this field yield effective results, Turkey is continuing its work on revision of legislation, as well as on raising public awareness.
