No:176 - 27 September 2008, Press Release Regarding Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum (Unofficial Translation)

“The Framework Agreement for the Turkish-Arab Forum” was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the republic of Turkey Mr. Ali Babacan and the Secretary General of the Arab League Mr. Amr Mousa on November 3rd, 2007 in İstanbul.



The said agreement envisages the establishment of a regular consultation mechanism, called the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum, with a view to further developing cooperation between Turkey and the Arab League in a variety of areas including political, economic, cultural and social fields.



The inaugural meeting at the Ministers of Foreign Affairs level of this forum established between Turkey and the Arab League will be hosted by Turkey on October 11th, 2008 in İstanbul.



Within the framework of the agreement that founded the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum, Secretary General of the Arab League Mr. Amr Mousa as well as the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Djibouti and Saudi Arabia which form the Arab Troika and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria which holds Presidency of the Arab League Summit will participate together with Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ali Babacan in the Inaugural Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs.



The Inaugural Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs will add a new impetus to the relations that have developed significantly in all fields in recent years between Turkey and the Arab countries and will constitute a venue to reconfirm the existing mutual will to further these relations.



The Inaugural Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs will also reinforce the efforts aimed at the establishment of peace and stability in the Middle East.
