No:156, 1 July 2011, Press Release Regarding the Arson Attack Perpetrated in the City of Elmshorn, State of Schleswig-Holstein

A coffee house owned by a Turkish citizen, Bülent Çelik, was the target of an arson attack perpetrated on Sunday evening on 26 June 2011 in the city of Elmshorn located in the State of Schleswig-Holstein, Federal Republic of Germany.

The fact there was no loss of life and the perpetrator of the attack was caught are causes of consolation. However, since the arson attack occurred while there were customers inside, it has generated regret and sorrow. It is expected that this kind of attacks should be condemned and necessary measures taken.

In recent years an increase in the number of actions targeting our citizens in Western European countries has been observed.

It is important that our citizens who have contributed as a labor force to the prosperity and welfare of the countries they reside since the 1960s continue to live in peace and security.
