NO:121 - 8 July 2008, Press Release Regarding the Heinous Terrorist Attacks in Islamabad (Unofficial Translation)

Turkey strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attacks which took place on 6 July 2008 in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, claiming 19 lives, of which 15 were police officers, and wounding more than 50; and on 7 July 2008, this time in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, in front of the Indian Embassy, which, according to initial data, killed 40 people including the Military Attaché, Press Counsellor and two security officers of the Indian Embassy, and wounded 141.

It has been demonsrated once again with these attacks that terrorism, which is a crime against humanity, is the common enemy of Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as India, and targets the whole of humanity regardless of religion, nationality and geography.

Turkey, as it has done up until now, will resolutely continue its support and contributions to the global fight against terrorism and extremism. We once again call upon the international community to act in solidarity in the fight against terrorism.

We extend our condolences to the peoples and Governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India; and wish speedy recovery to the wounded.
