No: 87, 5 April 2016, Press Release Regarding Tripoli Visit of Mr. Emrullah İşler, Turkey’s Special Representative for Libya

A delegation, headed by Mr. Emrullah İşler, Member of Parliament and Special Representative of Mr. President and Turkish Government for Libya, that included Turkish Ambassador to Libya, visited Tripoli on 4-5 April 2016 to hold a number of talks.

During the talks held by our delegation with Mr. Fayez Mustafa Al-Sarraj, President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord, the members of the Presidency Council and Mr. Mohammed Taher Siyala, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Turkish delegation reiterated that Turkey welcomes taking office of the Presidency Council in Tripoli and reaffirmed its support to the efforts of the Presidency Council to establish stability in the country. The delegation also underlined that an approach embracing all segments of the Libyan people should be adopted particularly in this period.

During the visit, talks were also held with Mr. Nouri Abusahmain, the President of the General National Congress, Mr. Abdulbasit Gveyle, Director of Foundations in Tripoli and Deputy Grand Mufti as well as the members of the Fatwa House. They were encouraged to act in line with the interests of the Libyan people and in a spirit of reconciliation, and to fully support the Government of the National Accord in this critical period, which Libya is passing through.

Having also met with Mr. Mohamed Sowan, Head of the Justice and Construction Party and Mr. Abdul Rauf Baitulmal, Head of the Municipality of Tripoli, our delegation expressed that we will provide support, in all our means, for the reconstruction of Libya.

The visit, organized in coordination with the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), was fruitful in terms of making an assessment of the situation on the ground, conveying our messages directly to the Libyan stakeholders from all segments and reaffirming Turkey’s support for the Libyan people.

Turkey will resolutely continue to support the efforts of all sides in Libya towards building a common future through dialogue and mutual understanding.
