No: 59, 7 March 2013: Press Release Regarding the Regular Meeting of the Arab League's Council of Foreign Ministers

We welcome that the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces was given the opportunity to represent Syria in the Arab League and that it was invited to participate in the Arab League Summit, to be held in Qatar on 26-27 March, on behalf of Syria through a decision reached in the Regular Meeting of the Arab League's Council of Foreign Ministers of March 6th.

This decision, which constitutes a crucial step in terms of strengthening the status of the Coalition that was recognized by the international community as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, has also been an extremely significant and a meaningful message to the Esad regime which already had lost its own legitimacy a long time ago and which has been trying to suppress the legitimate demands of its people through violence.

We firmly believe that the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces will do what is deemed necessary without delay to take over the chair of Syria in the Arab League Summit. Turkey stands ready to provide support to the Syrian opposition to this end.

We congratulate the Arab League for this decision, which constitutes a milestone in the struggle of the Syrian people for freedom and democracy. Moreover, we hope as well that this stance serves as an example for the other international organizations.
