No: 294, 14 September 2014, Press Release Regarding the Syrian Regime’s Use of Chemical Weapons

The Syrian regime’s inhuman brutality against the people has gained a new dimension with the recent findings outlining the use of chlorine gas by the regime.

The latest report released by the OPCW Fact-Finding Mission has determined that chlorine gas has been used “systematically and repeatedly.” It is clear that the chlorine gas has been employed by the regime. Indeed, this has also been put on record by the report of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria that the regime has employed chlorine gas in its attacks.

The use of chlorine gas by the regime is a clear violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2118. This violation once again reveals the dimensions of the threat the regime poses to regional and international peace and stability.

We expect the UN Security Council to take the necessary steps in the face of these attacks by the regime, which directly target civilians and constitute crimes against humanity.
