No: 260, 20 September 2015, Press Release Regarding the Latest Developments in Libya

We condemn the airstrikes carried out yesterday (19 September) in Benghazi and its environs. It is obvious that such actions will not contribute in any way to reaching a positive completion of the Libyan political dialogue process, in which UN acts as facilitator and which has started in January 2015 and is presently in its final stage.

We reiterate our call on all Libyan parties to reach a consensus during the present round of talks held in Skhirat, Morocco and to sign without delay, the “Political Agreement” and its annexes, subject of their protracted negotiations; we are looking forward especially to the establishment of the Government of National Accord on the basis of mutual compromise.

At this final juncture of the process, we believe that all parties will do their utmost so as not to return to the stage of conflict and call on all to act with responsibility and common sense for the future of Libya.

In this framework, we hope that the brotherly people of Libya will achieve as soon as possible, peace, stability and prosperity, which they have been longing for so many years at an immense cost.
