No: 194, 2 July 2015, Press Release Regarding the Election of Dr. Can Ünver to the UN Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW)

The election of new members who will serve in the 2016-2019 period to the Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW) which is the executive body of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (ICRMW) was held in New York on 30 June 2015.

In the elections held on the margin of the 7th Meeting of UN ICRMW State Parties, our candidate Dr. Can Ünver was elected to the Committee. Dr. Ünver received the votes of 37 out of 46 State Parties to CMW.

Turkey, as one of the countries which has the highest number of migrant workers abroad, attributes importance to the functioning of the Committee's protection and monitoring mechanisms effectively. Turkey also deems it important that the Convention is signed by all members of the UN and the regulations stipulated therein are fully implemented.

Based on his academic and bureaucratic background, Dr. Ünver will render valuable contributions to the work of the Committee and Turkey's efforts regarding the implementation of the Convention.
