A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that outlines the main areas of the practical cooperation to be developed in the field of preventing irregular migration, between the Republic of Turkey and the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (FRONTEX) was signed on 28 May 2012.

The MoU envisages to share experience and information with FRONTEX and to conduct joint assessment concerning mixed migration flows. Furthermore, joint projects to be supported by the European Union may also be developed with FRONTEX.

Turkey does its best to prevent the irregular migration which has become a major problem in our times and takes all necessary measures. Establishment of institutional cooperation with FRONTEX through this MoU clearly demonstrates our determination and importance which we attach to cooperation to combat irregular migration.
