His Majesty The King of Norway Harald V is paying an official visit to Turkey upon the invitation of H. E. Abdullah Gül, President of Turkey.

At the meeting between the delegations chaired by President Gül and King Harald, all aspects of the relations between the two countries, particularly political and economic issues were discussed. Additional opportunities to increase bilateral trade volume and mutual investments were addressed and views on current regional and international issues were exchanged. Following the meetings, the Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation in the Field of Energy was signed by the relevant officials of the two countries.

This visit by His Majesty The King is of great importance in that it is the first visit from Norway to Turkey at the head-of-state level since 1926, when the first diplomatic relations between the two countries were established.
