Kenya opens Embassy in Ankara

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu attended the opening of the Embassy of Kenya in Ankara together with President of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kenya, Amina Muhammed.

Pointing out that the bilateral relations between Turkey and Kenya have progressed rapidly since President Abdullah Gül’s visit to Kenya in 2009, President Kenyatta voiced his happiness over the opening of Kenyan Embassy in Ankara.

On the other hand, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu noted that Turkish Embassy in Nairobi was opened in 1968 and said “Today we’re opening the Embassy of Kenya in Ankara. We have been waiting this opening for almost half a century.” Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that within the framework of Turkey’s opening up to Africa, Turkey increased the number of its Embassies in Africa to 35 in recent years and in return the number of Embassies ıf the African countries in Turkey increased from 11 to 28.

Maintaining that opening of the Kenyan Embassy in Ankara is a positive development, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stressed that Kenya occupies a significant place in the Turkey’s foreign policy towards Africa.
