The Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Istanbul, 18 May 2018

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an extraordinary meeting in Istanbul on 18 May 2018.

The Meeting was organized in preparation to the Seventh Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit Conference which was held the same day in Istanbul upon the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in response to the grave developments in the State of Palestine, as a result of the ongoing Israeli brutal aggression against the Palestinian people and the illegal inauguration of the US embassy in Al-Quds.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu, in his capacity as the Chair of the Foreign Ministers Meeting, has emphasized in his opening address that Turkey stands by the brotherly people of the state of Palestine and Al-Quds.

At the opening, alongside Minister Çavuşoğlu, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi of Jordan, Foreign Minister Pororashtrya Montri of Bangladesh, Foreign Minister Riad Malki of Palestine and OIC Secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen also addressed the Meeting.

At the Meeting, final preparations and draft of the Final Communique to be adopted today at the Seventh Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit Conference were reviewed.

On the sidelines of the OIC Extraordinary Meeting, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with newly appointed Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed of Sudan. At the meeting, views on steps towards further strengthening Turkey-Sudan cooperation were exchanged.

At the meetings held between Minister Çavuşoğlu and Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad of Somalia and Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi of Yemen, regional developments and bilateral cooperation were discussed.
