Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mr. Erlan Idrissov on 29 December 2014 in Ankara. On the occasion of the visit, the second meeting of the Turkey-Kazakhstan Joint Strategic Planning Group was held, in which the preparations for the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council that is scheduled to be held in 2015 were reviewed.

At the meetings held during the visit, our political and economic relations with our strategic partner Kazakhstan was reviewed and the opportunities for regional and international cooperation were discussed.

Speaking at the joint press conference held after the meetings, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that they reviewed steps that may be taken to further develop bilateral relations which already are on the strategic partnership level and underlined the need for further developing economic and trade relations. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that they are in agreement with his Kazakh counterpart in enhancing trade volume beyond its current 4 billion Dollar level.

Stating that they had the opportunity to review current regional developments within the framework of the visit, Foreign Minister expressed his gladness at working together with Kazakhstan in organizations such as Turkic Council and TURKSOY. Reminding Kazakhstan’s active participation to the efforts toward the establishment of international peace and stability, Minister Çavuşoğlu reiterated Turkey’s support to Kazakhstan’s candidacy for 2017-2018 United Nations Security Council.

On the other hand, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Idrissov underlined that Turkey is among the countries which Kazakhstan wants to enhance economic ties and stated that there is a strong will in Kazakhstan towards this end. Kazakh Foreign Minister also thanked Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu for his support to Kazakhstan’s UNSC Candidacy.

At the joint press conference, Kazakh Foreign Minister Idrissov also awarded Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu a medal for his contribution to Turkish-Kazaks relations.
