Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Portugal

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu accompanied Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on an official visit on the occasion of the First Intergovernmental Summit meeting between Turkey and Portugal to Lisbon on 3 March 2015.

In addition to Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu, Deputy Prime Ministers Ali Babacan, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Volkan Bozkır, Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı, Minister of Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of National Defence İsmet Yılmaz also accompanied Prime Minister Davutoğlu.

First meeting of the Intergovernmental Summit was held with participation of high level participants from the related Ministries.

During the visit, Joint Declaration between the Governments was adopted. Furthermore, during the first summit meeting, MoU in the Field of Education, Cooperation Protocol Between the General Directorate of Food and Control of Turkish Republic and the Economic and Food Safety Authority of the Portuguse Republic, Agreement on Mutual Protection of Classified Information, MoU Between DEİK and AICEP were signed.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu met with his counterpart Rui Machete.

On the occasion of the visit to Portugal, the monument which was unveiled in 2013 and dedicated to the memory of Erkut Akbay, Administrative Attaché of the Turkish Embassy in Lisbon and his wife Nadide Akbay who were killed in a terrorist attack in 1982, as well as to all diplomats and government officials fallen while on duty abroad, was visited.
