Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu met with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on 9 October 2014 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the joint press conference held after the meeting, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that they evaluated the recent developments in Syria and Iraq, particularly the ISIS threat, as well as the security problem and the importance of NATO in the region. Stating that terrorism should be dealt in a comprehensive manner, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu added that they have also touched upon the humanitarian aspect of the problems arising at the borders.

Stating that Turkey will always continue her support to international security and stability, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined that they had a follow up on the conclusions of the NATO Summit held in September. Çavuşoğlu referred to Turkey’s support to Ukraine within the context of NATO and informed Secretary General Stoltenberg about the situation of the Crimean Tatars and expressed Turkey’s sensitivities on this subject.

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg stated that Turkey, being a very important ally, has been contributing to collective security and regional stability for decades, and that NATO will continue to support Turkey.
