Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu met with his Costa Rican counterpart

Foreign Minister Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with Mr. Manuel Gonzales Sanz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica on October 9, 2014. During the meeting, all aspects of bilateral relations as well as steps to further develop these relations were discussed.

Speaking at the joint press conference which was held after the tête-à-tête meeting and the meeting between the delegations, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that they reciprocally decided to inaugurate embassies during the recent visits. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that Turkish Embassy in Costa Rica was opened last month and the Embassy of Costa Rica in Ankara will be inaugurated this evening.

Pointing out that Turkey’s relations with Latin America and the Caribbean countries have gained an important momentum in recent years, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that they decided to sign an agreement on trade cooperation as soon as possible with a view to establish a joint economic commission between the two countries. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu added that both parties confirmed their will to define the road map required to sign a free trade agreement.

Mr. Sanz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica said that Turkey and Costa Rica has and will have a lot to share. Sanz added that the relations between the two countries will become stronger and gain strategic importance in the future.
